The Floating-Lantern was created from a combined love for antiquities, old fashion kerosene lanterns, and candle lit tables at restaurants as well as desire for something compact that doesn't require allot of special handling or storage space. Something that you can use both at home and/or take with you on camping trips.
Oil lamps predates kerosene lanterns. Since antiquity, cooking oil like olive oil have been used as light source across the globe. In the middle east, olive oil is abundant and used as lighting fuel since biblical times.
Unfortunately, oil lamp requires special clay lamps like the one on the left which make it not ideal for typical use. They are not ideal to store at home and are not ideal for romantic settings. Oil lamps are also not ideal for outdoor and emergency use as they are more prone to be broken.
Olive oil have been used for thousands of years in the Mediterranean as a fuel source for oil lamps. Throughout history it has been used as a fuel source to light up homes, sanctuaries, temples and tabernacles wherever fuel that burns for a long time is required. Documented evidence of its use can be found dating as far back as ancient Greek.
The reason olive oil is preferred over all other fuel sources is due to its safe and renewable nature. It is safer to burn olive oil than other fuel sources because of its low volatility due to olive oil’s high flash point. Olive oil does not burn until it reaches 550°F. As such it is safer to use olive oil than other fuel source. if an oil lamp is knocked over, the chance of starting a fire is greatly reduced. In most cases, the burning olive oil will smolder and put itself out or at least give you time to put it out.
In addition, because olive oil is nearly 99% pure fuel burning olive oil produce little to no smoke or soot.
Unlike oil lamp and kerosene lanterns, Floating-Lantern are made to be durable and compact. Unlike candles that burns away, the Floating-Lantern will last for years.
Unlike kerosene lanterns which burns paraffin oil / kerosene that comes with health hazard warnings and require special wicks to burn and maintain. The Floating-Lanterns burns cooking oil in additional to kerosene / paraffin oil. We actually recommend you use olive oil.
The Floating-Lantern is also great for windy outdoor environment. Unlike torches, candles, and oil lamps that are susceptible to be blown out by wind, the Floating-Lantern is designed to withstand windy environments.
The Floating-Lantern combines the best of oil lamp, candle, and kerosene lantern.
